Well, since I'm up and "trapped" either upstairs or in the basement, I chose upstairs and thought I might as well post. Ryan, the guy who rarely gets sick, is sicker than I have ever seen him. It all started a couple days ago when he got a horrible headache that wouldn't go away, no matter what he took. Then it moved to his throat and then when he called from work Monday and told me to schedule an appointment, I knew it was serious. He hates going to the doctor like I hate taking any kind of medication. The earliest appointment they had was 9PM, so he went last night and they said it was either the flu (the REAL flu, not the stomach bug flu) or pneumonia. They gave him 2 prescriptions for his nasty cough (one contained codeine) and sent him on his way with plans for chest x-rays the next day...oh, at this point he had a fever of 103 and looked like death. So, today the flu test came back positive and he had yet another prescription prescribed. So, I have to mention that the side effects to these meds are out of control. For the one, he has to drink a glass of water before he takes it and another, at least, 8 oz after or his throat will close...nice! The flu medication will cause nightmares and hallucinations...what in the world? I hate taking Tylenol, let along these kind, so at this point when the pharmacist is telling me this, I am thinking that I'm headed home to kill my husband with these major strong drugs. The fever won't come down (he's on Ibuprofen on top of everything else) and mid-afternoon he started throwing up...I found this out when he told me to wash everything "really good" in the kitchen sink because he threw up in it (over dirty dishes...ahhh, gross!) six times. I now want to disinfect everything in sight...as I was Lysol-ing the phone, I realized how long this process will take whenever he gets over this. Anyway, I am praying that no one else in the family will get this...I took Owen and Aves to my mom's and hung out there all day, while making trips back to sick-y with food and other things. This was one of those days (not that every one isn't) that I am SO thankful for my awesome mother...letting me invade her house with the kiddos, (she canceled plans!) making homemade soup for Ry and bringing him Gingerale and OJ this morning, (she said that she NEVER wants to hear a mother-in-law joke come out of his mouth) and insisting Owen stay overnight to avoid germs (It does feel like I'm walking into germ-fest 2008 every time I open the door).
Today was also a good lesson in all Ryan does around here that I take for granted...staying up late every night with Aves so I can get an hour or two of sleep before the fun begins, (she is getting better, but it's still no picnic!) transforming to Super-daddy as soon as he gets home from work, (the poor guy gets no downtime anymore) putting Owen to bed every night, (and dealing with all his little bed-time rituals) and the million other things that he does that go unnoticed until they aren't done one day.
I'll have to end this since it's time to wake up Ryan to take another pill ...the close your throat kind...ugh!...until next time...

Thought I'd include a picture of how I feel :-)

Poor Ryan. Now I feel really bad for giving him a hard time about not feeling well. I will be praying for him to recover quickly and protection for the rest of the family.
I too HATE any type of medication. I think I would rather feel like death then start having hallucinations.
Let me know if I can be of any help!!
PS you need to change your family photo on the left.
We will be praying for Ryan...hope your days get better soon...it's so difficult when they are both so small...
Gracious Jena, that is terrible! We will also being praying for your whole family! Hang in there, Ryan.
Ugh, Poor Ryan! That stinks, I can't imagine trying to avoid that kind of illness for so long!! Thanks goodness for parents that live close by!! I hope that he gets better soon, so that all of you can return to your "normal" routine!!!!
