This post is more for my memories sake than anything, but Mr. Comedian (aka: Owen) has been cracking me up lately, so I thought I would jot some of these things down.
Lions: Here is the conversation I overheard between Ryan and Owen last night and if you know Owen, I'm sure you can totally hear him saying this...
O: Where are you going, Daddy?
Ry: To my fantasy football draft.
O: Your fantasy football draft? Where is that?
Ry: Nate's house.
O: Nate's house? Is Daniel going to be there?
Ry: Who's Daniel?
O (looking at him like, HELLO?!?): You know, Daddy, Daniel and the Lion's Den.
Ry: No, he's not going to be there tonight, Owen.
Whoppers:
I have had many "Where in the world did he come up with that?" moments in the past week or so, here are the 2 that I can remember:
Owen had a friend over the other day and this is what I heard as I was upstairs making lunch:
O: What's your dad's name?
D: Jason. What your dad's name?
O: Jerry. And my name's Jimmy.
D: No, you're Owen.
O: Nope. My name's Jimmy.
He had just watched a Veggie Tales video the night before and had been talking about Jerry and Jimmy (the squash) all night. I did end up going down and telling his friend that he was just pretending.
And his new thing is whenever someone asks what his dad's name is, he says, "Ryan" But then when people ask what his mom's name is he always (Try it next time you see him) says, "Momma-mia" He may have snuck off to Broadway when I wasn't looking one at some point...who knows.
He was at a b-day party over the weekend and all the kids were sitting around a table decorating cupcakes. (The only picture I had for this post) He started talking to the boy (who he didn't know) beside him:
O: What's your name?
R: Ryan. What's your name?
O: Owen.
*At this point I was thinking, "Yes! He is off the Veggie names kick and is going to converse like a little trouper!" I was already swelling with pride. He was being so well-behaved and independent and I could have gotten teary at what a big boy he is becoming. I even looked at Ryan and mouthed, "Do you see him?" Not all because he said the right name, but he had been really good all evening. I digress...
R: I'm 4. How old are you?
O: I'm 5. (He then took the tiniest peek up at me to see if I had heard and was going to jump in.)
I said, "Owen, you're not five, but tell him how old you're going to be on your birthday, which is so soon!"
O: Oh yea, I'm going to be 10.
Whatever Owen. When we got home, he told me, "I know I'm going to be 3."
Carrots:
Not the most riveting tale, but here goes anyway...
Because of the amount of time it takes to peel carrots, I usually buy baby carrots for lunches and only use the "real" ones for cooking and baby food. So today I was getting veggies ready for the soup I'm making for dinner tonight and Owen saw the carrots. He started freaking out, "OH MY GOODNESS!!! THEY'RE HUGE! I NEED ONE!" He was talking so loud and running in circles you would think I had giant cookies or something. I told him it's just a carrot, but he was pretty excited, so I peeled him one and said he could have it for a snack. Wow, totally made his day. He first played with "carrot" and the tallest Archibald Asparagus he could find for 20 minutes while I finished peeling and dicing veggies. Then Aves woke up so we went for a walk. It was a total of 60 minutes before the carrot was finished. So, I may have to switch back to "real" carrots because it was worth it for the healthy snack and the hour of contentedness (and sheer joy) it brought Owen.

Oh, I am laughing out loud right now at all these hysterical things he says! I LOVE YOUR LITTLE MAN SO MUCH! Sam is the same way about "regular" carrots - he gets soooo excited to this day to get a "real" carrot instead of the baby ones! They are sooooo alike!
Your post made me laugh--I just love all the funny things O comes up with. I guess instead of lollipops at the mall, you can take one, hockin' huge orage carrot! You could shop for hours...
Okay, my favorite is the Jerry and Jimmy story. That is hilarious. He has so much personality! I've tried to videotape some of Blake's hilarious conversations with himself/others, but I'm never sneaky enough to catch him.
Owen is a hoot! He cracks me up!
Kids . . . they say the darndest things!!! I just love it! I can here Owen now. Steve just said to me the other day that he wishes that Bailey wouldn't get so shy and quiet around other people b/c she is absolutely hilarious around home! Bryce was more serious in his imaginatary play!!
Oh yeah, that above comment was left by me . . . Kelly (not that you couldn't tell by the names I used!!!)
You have quite the hilarious son! I was laughing at each story. Thanks for taking the time to write them up for those of us who don't get to see him often enough!
Owen is just so funny and he probably doesn't even realize it. He is just growing up too fast. He makes me laugh.........something I need right now. Grandma H.
